In the Primary School (Grades 2 to 6), each student is nurtured to reach his/her potential by developing individual, social and academic skills. The Primary School lays the foundation for a respectful attitude towards oneself, others and the environment. Gender equality and tolerance of religious as well as cultural differences are promoted. The student learns to solve conflicts in a non-violent way. The partnerships with families are of importance to share the duty of education.
Strong emphasis is put on achieving perfect language abilities in the first and second language (German/English). In all grades of Profile D, students receive extra support in German, and in Profile E they receive extra support in English; for students of multilingual families special support lessons are offered as well.
In Primary School, students learn fundamental cultural knowledge and basic techniques, such as speaking, reading, writing, mathematics, perception, learning and reflection. In this way, they become able to master the challenges of further educational levels. In all subjects and grades, the most recent information technologies are used.
Besides factual knowledge, development in the fields of music, sports and arts is taught.
Project and field trip weeks are designed to support lasting impressions and experiences as well as to strengthen the contact with Thailand.
The lessons are based on the RIS Swiss Section-Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok curriculum, which follows the guidelines of Canton Luzern, Switzerland. However, especially in social studies, regional circumstances are taken into consideration.
The curriculum offers an extensive education by taking the academic and social needs of every single student into consideration. The homeroom teacher holds a primary responsibility because he/she teaches the child in a holistic way - most subjects are taught by him/her. These include the profiles' first language, mathematics, social studies, music, PE, handicrafts, woodwork as well as homework support lessons. The second language, Thai and French are taught by subject teachers.
In Primary School, lessons run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:05 p.m. depending on the grade and day of the week. After 1:35 p.m., students have the option to take part in extracurricular activities on a voluntary basis..
